What is a Bat Mitzvah?
A Bat Mitzvah is a significant milestone in the life of a Jewish girl. The term translates to “daughter of commandment” in Hebrew. When Leia has her Bat Mitzvah, she officially becomes an adult in the eyes of the Jewish law. This means she takes on all the rights and responsibilities of a Jewish adult, including observing the commandments of the Torah. It’s a momentous occasion that connects her to her Jewish heritage.
What to Expect: The Ceremony
At the heart of the Bat Mitzvah celebration is the ceremony itself. During this special event, Leia will read the Torah (bible), share a Dvar Torah (a commentary she’s written about her Torah portion), and take on the Mitzvot (commandments) for the first time. Usually this ceremony would take place at Synagogue Saturday morning, but we’ll be keeping things relaxed and celebrating with a Havdalah ceremony - a lovely way to mark the end of Shabbat and welcome the new week. Havdalah involves lighting a braided candle, smelling fragrant spices, and sipping from a cup of wine. It’s a time for reflection, gratitude, and joy.
The Party Deets!
After the ceremony, we’ll be hosting a woodland-themed dinner and dance party and can’t wait to celebrate with you! Wear your best Camp Chic - we will mostly be outdoors so we recommend practical shoes along with your party clothes. Please be sure to bring a warm layer too as it will likely cool down quite a bit as the sun sets.
